'Drums of My Flesh' shortlisted for Impac Dublin Literary Prize

The Guyanese poet Cyril Dabydeen's novel, Drums of My Flesh, has been shortlisted for the very prestigious prize, the Impac Dublin Literary Prize. The winner gets 100,000 in Irish Pounds.

The critics are saying this novel enriches the Guyanese canon.
The novel is mainly about a Guyanese father worrying about bringing up his daughter in Canada, and the poetic language is full of Guyanese imagery,as he tries to reconcile Guyana and Canada. Click here for a by Anne Marie Lee-Loy, herself the Canadian daughter of Jamaicans.

The subject matter is ground-breaking and welcome since the literary portrayal of the exileGuyanese community in Canada has been much anticipated, and with this novel, Cyril is filling that gap
